There is a total absence of personality development, creation of moral conscience and ethical training. One of the biggest flaws of this education system is that it is more commercial in nature rather than an institutional concept that should impart holistic learning to students. It devotes very little time to physical activity and the development of other skill sets that can assist a student in becoming a better human being. The policies were framed to create a slave mindset rather than an innovative one. It definitely helped Britain to rule Indians, but even after 75 years of independence, Indian governments have never tried to make the education system more inclusive for every Indian citizen to get a quality education. According to a report by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), India has the highest population of illiterate adults at 287 million. There is a wide gap in urban and rural education, between government and private schools. Educational institutions should not be money-making machines in which students are treated as deployed money-making assets.
Our Proposed Solutions:
- Phenomenon-based learning must be adopted in the school education system
- Every school must be a government school with a uniform education system for every individual up to 6th grade
- In areas where there is no government school, the fees of private schools must follow the same rules as government schools
- All schools must follow a uniform system and maintain quality uniforms all over India
- Fees must be decided as per family income for students up to 6th grade, to ensure uniform education for every section of society in the same school and class
- Teachers must be treated as the most noble profession and given the same status as doctors and lawyers
- Day boarding gurukuls must be established up to 6th standard where all kinds of skills must be taught without any exams
- Every family in India must get an education security card for primary education
- Teachers up to 6th grade must go through special training and must be assessed by parents and students every month to assure quality
- After sixth grade, teachers must assist parents regarding the interests of the student to help them proceed further in his/her career
- Sports must be treated as equal to and sometimes more important than conventional science studies. Sports must be counted as academic success as well. Students after 6th standard who choose a career in sports must be admitted directly to national sports centres
- No school bags and no homework should be given up to 6th grade
- Innovation must be encouraged in the university education system
- The option to switch from an academic to another career must be available at any point of time in college, and that must be encouraged without harming the student's grades. Innovators must have the freedom to return and complete their college degrees again without any extra fees or backlogs
- There must be infrastructure in every university for sports and a subject must be assigned for that
- There must be no exams until 6th grade and children must be taught to cooperate instead of competing with each other
- School timings up to 6th grade must be according to the students and must be flexible
- Real problem-solving skills must be taught in universities rather than just cramming
- Indian universities must be promoted on international platforms
- Indian universities, specially private and deemed universities, should not be allowed to charge any extra fees in the name of extra activities, attendance or any other reason other than tuition fees only. It is the duty of an educational institution to provide all other facilities to students without charging any extra money
- Ties and belts must be totally banned from the Indian education system
- Community-based education institutions should not be there for primary education at all
